Sutra Jewels is a Houston fine jewelry house founded in 2008 by designer Arpita Navlakha and Divyanshu Navlakha, both graduates of the Gemological Institute of America. Grace Renee Gallery in Carefree, Arizona, carries the collections, which put gemstones first: oversized earrings, rings and cuffs in 18-karat gold, built around vivid stones and finished carefully front and back.
Navlakha's snake ring, introduced in 2009, remains the brand's emblem. Michelle Obama has worn Sutra earrings to official events, and the brand collaborates with Gemfields on ethically mined rubies and emeralds.
