Atelier Zobel: Peter Schmid
Peter Schmid took over Atelier Zobel in 2005, a decade after training as a goldsmith and jewelry designer in southern Germany and more than ten years working alongside the studio’s founder, Michael Zobel. From his workshop in Konstanz, Schmid builds one-of-a-kind pieces that begin as 6B-pencil sketches before taking shape in oxidized sterling silver set against 18- and 24-karat gold - a signature contrast that lets raw, sculptural metalwork frame faceted diamonds and colored gemstones rather than compete with them. Each piece reads as a conversation between the crystalline structure of the stone and the avant-garde forms built around it. Atelier Zobel has produced jewelry from its Konstanz studio for more than 45 years.
